I am also the Northwest Missouri State Representative of the Comprehensive Prevention Planning Group, Community Volunteer and State Certified Tester and STI Counselor Co-Treasure of the Nonprofit Midland Empire Equality Coalition.
Sean Connors has been a St. Joseph resident all of his life. He is a single, gay father of three teenagers that live with him. Sean works full time as an Audio/Visual consultant at a major animal pharmaceutical plant in St. Joseph, and recently left his part-time job with the YWCA as a Resident advocate in the women's abuse shelter to focus his time and energy on his youngest son's final year in High School. Sean operates the Something Else Cabaret at the Gallery on 6th Deli & Theatre and sits on the MEEC board and another not for profit. He likes advocating for LGBTQ issues and appreciates the opportunity to serve in this capacity. He would like to thank his kids for supporting him in everything he is a part of.
I am Kenny Crawford, a husband to Miles, a father to Ashlee (17) and Landon (10). I live in Cameron, MO. I am a stay at home dad. The best job I have ever had! I was a social worker in Health Care for a total of 20 years. 9 years at a long term care facility and 11 years at a hospital. I was born in Indiana and moved to Missouri with my family at age 8. I have been with my husband for 14 years and we were legally married on October 15, 2015 after marriage equality was passed. I am an active member of the First Christian Church in St. Joseph and volunteer in many ways at my church. I love singing in the church choir! I also have been directing the Grand River Harmony Chorus, a women's barbershop chorus, for 18 years. They sing all a cappella music and range from age 14 to ?. I love being a part of the MEEC board and assisting with planning the St. Jo Pride Festival this year. I am the chairman for the Vendors committee. If anyone is interested in having a booth at this years festival, please contact me at email@example.com.
Tyson Huff-Garza was born and raised in Savannah, Mo but has lived in Saint Joseph most of his adult life. Tyson is the District Manager for Head Start in Saint Joseph and the Camp Director of Royal Family KIDS, a local camp for abused and neglected children ages 7-11. Tyson is not only an advocate against child abuse and poverty, but also for the LGBTQ community. He has served on many boards and was even on the founding committee for the 1st ever PFLAG in Saint Joseph. Tyson is so excited to be back on this board to not only be an advocate and ally, but also to continue the good fight of equality for all.
I am Wilma Peterson, a trans woman, born and raised in the St. Joe area. I left 35 years ago and returned recently to help with family. I am happy with the changes in the area as far as the LGBT community goes, but believe more is needed to be done. I have always considered myself an educator for the trans community. The questions you have but are afraid to ask, ask me. You will not offend me with a question, but don't be offended by the answer, as I will be honest with you. I am very honored to be a MEEC board member and, along with my fellow board members, believe that great things are on the horizon for St. Joseph and our community.
Hello, my name is Daniel Ramming. I grew up on a farm just outside of Hinton, OK. In May of 1993, I moved to St. Joseph to be with Greg Bigham, the man I would eventually have the pleasure of legally marrying in January of 2010. Greg and I have been involved in community development and civic organizations most of that time. We have primarily been active in the Downtown Association, Pridefloat, the Trails West Festival, and previous LGBT+ Rights organizations. Professionally, I have been an Art teacher for several years in the area, however, I am currently a Special Education teacher at a local middle school. I am honored to be part of this board and am proud that it is a “working board.” St. Joseph and the surrounding communities have made a great deal of progress in the area of LGBT+ Rights, but we clearly have a lot of unfinished work to do. As the president of the Midland Empire Coalition, I welcome you to be a part of the change you would like to see in our region.
